Sha Steel Successfully Produces 0.10mm Ultra-Thin High-Grade Non-Oriented Silicon Steel, Breaking Bottlenecks in High-End Materials

2026 08/01

In recent days, Sha Steel rolled out its first coil of 0.10 mm ultra-thin high-grade non-oriented silicon steel. The full coil stretches 20,000 meters and is thinner than standard A4 printing paper, placing the company among China’s top manufacturers of ultra-thin high-grade non-oriented silicon steel.
The production of 0.10 mm ultra-thin silicon steel is extremely challenging. The material features high brittleness, making strip breakage, wrinkling and other defects highly likely during rolling. Sha Steel’s R&D team overcame multiple core technical hurdles, achieving independent development and successful one-time rolling, ending long-term reliance on imports for this specification.
The product has an alloy content of 5.0%, with iron loss reduced to below 9.5 W/kg, a decrease of as much as 50%. Under high-frequency operating conditions, it effectively cuts motor heat generation and lowers equipment weight. It meets the strict requirements for lightweight motors, high torque and low power loss in emerging sectors including drones and humanoid robots.

To date, Sha Steel has developed more than 150 silicon steel grades covering all performance tiers, with a dedicated product line for new energy vehicles. Going forward, the enterprise will pursue the development of an even thinner 0.08 mm specification. Targeting high-speed motors rotating above 30,000 revolutions per minute, it will keep upgrading high-performance silicon steel to support domestic industrialization of low-altitude economy and humanoid robot supply chains.
